Maisie might be better known as her Game of Thrones’ character, Ayra Stark, but there is more to this gal than sword fighting and wolf handling. Here’s why she deserves your follow…
She’s so damed normal
As Maisie shot to fame by winning a starring role in the huge TV hit, Game of Thrones, when she was just 14, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if she turned out to be kind of a diva. But no, if her Insta is to be believed, this little lady is all kinds of ordinary. Sure, she posts her share of (btw awesome) red carpet looks, but genuinely seems happiest when she’s lolling about with her mates. She manages to summon some serious cosiness with the caption: “U, me, sofa, tea.” Maisie, that is our everything right there.
She’s the right kind of #orcs
Maisie is bringing together her love for all things mother nature and her film and TV background to produce a documentary called Searching for Chinook. It’s still early days and, as Maisie explains: “No matter who you are and whatever position you’re in, documentaries aren’t easy or cheap to make”, so there’s currently a campaign running on Kickstarter. If they raise enough funds, Maisie will join a team of documentary-makers to raise awareness of the plight of Orcas in Canada and the US, who are rapidly running out of food. Vital or what?
🌊So here we go!🌊 Over the last few years, at one point or another, you’ve probably seen (or heard) me banging on about orcas or dolphins and their wellbeing. Today I can announce that, between myself and my orca buddy Alex, we are going to make a documentary. It will be both challenging and cheerful but, most importantly, we’ll be answering one baffling question… WHERE’S ALL THE BLOODY SALMON? We have a kickstarter page should you like to donate (I’ve come to realise that no matter who you are and whatever position you’re in, documentaries aren’t easy or cheap to make 😅) if not, your support and a follow on our official page would be just as helpful to us. SEARCHING FOR CHINOOK. 🐠🐟🐬🐳🐋
She’s building a community
Heard of Daisie? It’s an app Maisie has been working on that aims to connect creators including filmmakers, writers, singers, entrepreneurs and more. The founders reckon that all the social networks we use at the moment are obsessed with how many followers you can get, and that just isn’t the most important thing going on in the world. Instead, Daisie promises to let you “connect with people like you. Share original content, learn, discover and be inspired to start new conversations and make ideas happen.” Sounds good – sign us up!
She gives us a sneaky peek into her private life
From cutesy captions about her boyfriend, Ollie Jackson (they’re actually beyond adorbs together) to sparkly 21st birthday party moments to squishable toddler times, Maisie isn’t shy about sharing gorgeous glimpses into her personal album. Her account doesn’t feel like a bunch of promotional stuff, carefully policed by her manager. That stuff is there too, of course, but beneath it all, you just feel that this girl is real.
Her dog is actual magic
OK, so some serious scrolling is required to catch up Maisie’s many pics of her frankly incredible dog, Sonny. She adopted this li’l white fluff ball from Bristol Dogs and Cats Home back in 2016 and has posted about him like, a LOT (and we ain’t complaining!). She always uses the hashtag #adoptdontshop to spread the word that rehoming unwanted pets is the one. Hey, it’s definitely worked out for her in the shape of this perfect pooch.
She is actual IRL BFs with Sophie
Whether you’re a diehard Game of Thrones fan or if you just love a solid female friendship, Maisie’s posts about her on-screen big sis, Sophie Turner, are going to get you right in the feels. The girls have worked together for seven-ish years and have formed a firm real-life friendship which involves dressing up, face swapping, hitting the red carpet and partying HARD together.
She cares (like, really cares)
We’ve already seen plenty of evidence that Maisie is an animal lover, and this gal really knows how to use her fame to spread the word about causes that are important to her. She launched a shirt to raise money for The Dolphin Project and has spoken up against animal testing as well as planning her awesome Orcas doc. There’s more to this girl than being Jon Snow’s sister, that’s for sure.
