#FollowFriday: Why we’re loving Emma Watson this week

Right, let’s get real about this Insta. Obviously, we love Emma Watson because Hermione. And because she’s articulate, she has a wardrobe that makes us more than a little bit green, she uses her voice for good and she’s ttly gorgeous,. All this, we know to be true. However, this isn’t one of those chatty-chatty, get to know the real person accounts.

Nope: Ms Watson keeps her private life private and uses her social to promote causes close to her heart. That’s not a grumble, because this lady is seriously involved in some inspiring campaigns, so there is loads to learn from hitting the follow button. Read on to find out more about matters close to her heart (and for a bonus bunch of kittens right at the end).

She gets political

While her magical alter-ego is probably the number one thing most people know about Emma Watson, second up is probably that she is passionate about all sorts of worthy causes. Recently, she lent her support to the “Repeal the 8th” campaign, which led to the legalisation of abortion in Ireland. She promoted Mental Health Awareness week and International Women’s Day. She stood up and shouted “Time’s up” when sexual harassment claims shook Hollywood. Scroll back to see tons of posts along these lines. She’s a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations and is dedicated to using her platform to spread awareness of important issues. Go, girl.

She’s a big bookworm

This lady likes to get lost in a good book and has founded her own feminist book club, @oursharedshelf [LINK:] , to build a community of like-minded literature lovers. Emma chooses a book every two months and people across the globe read along, posting questions and insights here [LINK: ]. Sometimes Emma interviews the authors, too, so it adds a whole new dimension to reading a book on your own.

She gives us a peep at her old albums

It’s not all serious stuff on Emma’s grid: she occasionally rifles through the archives for old gems like this, proving that everyone goes through the “floppy pink hat” stage (although let’s be honest: she looks kinda great).

She makes you forget she’s a superstar

Emma is so devoted to her political causes that it’s sometimes easy to forget what got her 47 million followers in the first place (she’s actually kind of a massive movie star, remember?) That’s why it’s great to see her post pics like this totally incredible Vogue cover from the Australian March issue. In true Watson style, she wasn’t just slapped on the cover: she actually guest edited the issue, which was dedicated to sustainability and “Designing the Future.” Nice work.

She’s humble

Even when she mentions that a movie she starred in, Beauty and the Beast, was nominated for two Oscars, she posts a picture that showcases the beautiful costumes and set – and doesn’t feature her at all.

She even turned her trip to the Golden Globes into a political opportunity

When a star turns up to an award ceremony, one thing everyone wants to know is “Who is their date?” So when Emma walked down the red carpet at the Golden Globes in January, who was her guest? She picked Marai Larasi, Executive Director of a charity called Imkaan which works to end violence against black and minority ethnic women. What a plus one.

She loves kittens as much as we do

So it turns out that Emma has a serious soft spot for tiny fluff pots. This video of her being interviewed while a bunch of kittens clamber over her really needs your watch. Meow.
