As some wise women once sang – if you wanna be my lover you’ve got to get with my friends. And we stand by that. Uteruses before duderuses. Ovaries before brovaries. Whether you’ve got a huge squad or just one BFF, there’s nothing quite like friendship to get you through.
Here are the people we’d most like to invite to a sleepover, talking about friendship:
“One friend with whom you have a lot in common is better than three with whom you struggle to find things to talk about.”
Mindy Kaling values quality, not quantity.
“My two best girlfriends are from secondary school. I don’t have to explain anything to them. I don’t have to apologise for anything. They know.”
Emma Watson’s friends just get it – she doesn’t even have to speak. Magic.
“I don’t really believe in cliques – I think everyone can be friends with everyone”
The Pretty Little Liars could do with taking a leaf out of Lucy Hale’s book.
“One of my favorite stories with Taylor Swift was when I was going through a very hard breakup. She came to my house at 10:30 at night and knocked on my door. I opened it, and she had two big bags of junk food, cookies, Snickers and soda. She put it on the table, put her laptop on, we made a video, and she told me that now we could look forward to breakups, since we know the other one will get us junk food.”
Selena Gomez knows she can rely on her best mates to cheer her up. Taylor, and junk food.
“I think about my best friendship – which the Marnie and Hannah friendship in Girls is based on – as like a great romance of my young life.”
Forget romance says Lena Dunham, real love comes in the form of friendship
“I happen to believe your soulmate doesn’t have to be your partner. Your soulmate could be your best friend”
Friendship can last a lifetime says Cheryl Cole, and you don’t even have to marry it first.
“Surround yourself with people who are the ketchup to your French fries – they make you a better version of yourself. Yes french fries are amazing on their own, but combined with ketchup they are a force. Spend time with people who bring out your true flavours, but don’t overpower you”
Grace Helbig really savours her friendships. Mmm, French fries.
“A true friend is someone who never gets tired of listening to your pointless dramas over and over again.”
Does this mean we’re friends with Lauren Conrad too?
“The secret to a really great friendship is just creating fun memories whenever you’re with that person”
According to Zendaya, binge watching Gossip Girl with your bestie isn’t a waste of time – it’s memory-creation.
“I do have many of the same friends I grew up with. Most I’ve known since we were three or four years old!”
Preserving those old friendships is important, especially to Bella Thorne.
“It’s SO much worse than breaking up with a guy! I ultimately decided to end our friendship because I only believe in mutual friendships and this one was far from that.”
Khloe Kardashian knows that when friendships end, it can hurt even more than a break up. But like romance, sometimes friendships don’t work out, and that’s totally ok.
