We’ve all been there. Sat around the family dinner table on a particularly drizzly Sunday afternoon.
‘I’m bored,’ you tell your mother.
‘Scrabble,’ she answers.
‘Pictionary?’ she offers.
‘The Period Game?’
*The sun comes out from behind the clouds, a chorus of angels begins to sing, tampons and pads and menstrual cups rain down from the skies.*
Yes guys. Thanks to two genius US design students, this is a real, actual, soon-to-be-in-your-living-room thing.
How does this miracle game work?
Each turn, you spin the two ovaries until a marble comes up. The ovaries have three clear marbles and one red one, each representing a week of your menstrual cycle #obvs. If you get a clear marble, you move one space ahead, while if you nab a red one, you move to the next ‘period’ space on the board.
When you land on non-period spaces you can pick up ‘protection’ cards. The cards include gems such as ‘take a cozy hot bath,’ or ‘get a good nights rest’ to be played when you land on PMS as well as cards with illustrations of pads, tampons and menstrual cups for when you’re riding the crimson wave.
At betty, we obviously applaud any board game that involves 3D ovaries and playing pieces in the shape of knickers – but why stop there? Why not adapt all the existing board games to make them more helpful for those of us riding the crimson wave (and more educational for those who aren’t)?
Here are some ideas we came up with…
Including properties such as Pad-onville Road, Blood Street and when you land on Waterworks, instead of getting a $200 fine, you’re given a piece of chocolate and ten minutes to play with a puppy.
For the time of the month when your uterus is all tied up in knots. Twingester is a fun distraction from any period pain you might be experiencing and a way to stretch out your stomach and say ‘adios‘ to your cramps.
This is pretty much just the same as normal Uno, but with adorable tampon and pad graphics for when you’re going with the flow.
Vajenga is a game of angles, precision and confidence. Much like the actual application of a tampon!
