The 68th annual Emmy Awards were broadcast last night, and all of TV’s darlings were there. Game of Thrones won the Best Drama Series, which surprised exactly no one. Sure, Sherlock won Outstanding Made-for-TV Movie, Jimmy Kimmel hosted the whole thing and Trump got a few mentions but it was the women who really stole last night’s show.

Here are the five best things that happened at last night’s Emmys.

Amy Schumer pulls the strings

In response to the most boring question on the red carpet, “What are you wearing?” Amy Schumer responded in the best way possible. She pointed to her dress, “Vivienne Westwood,” kicked up her heels, “Tom Ford Shoes,” and then went in for the masterstroke, “and an O.B. tampon!” Presenter Giuliana Rancic was dancing and laughing along with Amy until the word ‘tampon’ was mentioned, when she stopped in shock. What’s the matter, Giuliana? Are crimson waves not allowed on the red carpet?

Amy, we salute you.

Smart girls were asking smart questions

Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls’ took to the red carpet to ask celebrities like Mandy Moore and Kristen Bell much genuinely interesting questions – such as, ‘what can you say about the importance of individuality and self-expression?’ and ‘what’s the best way to calm your nerves?’ Because there are more important things to talk about than what shoes someone is wearing. Watch their responses here.

The Stranger Things cast prove, once again, that they are awesome

While the TV greats were finding their seats at the 68th Emmys, they got a very pleasant surprise when three of the Stranger Things cast members; Millie Bobby Brown, Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo took to the stage to perform a cover of Uptown Funk. Later on, they captured the audience’s attention again when they dressed up in character to deliver peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made by host Jimmy Kimmel’s mum to members of the audience. Give those guys a raise.

Kate McKinnon busts out a killer acceptance speech

Ghostbuster and all-round shero Kate McKinnon won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance on Saturday Night Live, and her reaction was enough to melt even the coldest of hearts. She may have been shaking and crying, but she still remembered to thank Hillary Clinton – because, you know, the sisterhood.

Jeffrey Tambor gives trans a chance

During his acceptance speech for winning the Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in Transparent, an Amazon TV series about a transgender woman, Jeffrey Tambor called upon the industry to include more transgender actors and actresses. “I’m not going to say this beautifully, but to you people out there – to you producers, you network owners, and you agents, and you creative sparks – please give transgender talent a chance,” he said.
