Welcome to the round-up, half term edition. It’s pretty much the same at the regular round-up, except you’re on holidays and I’m not. Not that I’m bitter or anything, no siree. But for reals, I hope your half term has been awesome and relaxing and you’re draped over a unicorn pool inflatable somewhere, reading this.

Here’s everything we’ve been doing, loving and reading this week.

Lorde continues to be a baller

Adorable story alert: last weekend Lorde was in New York for the Governor’s Ball when she wandered into smoothie shop Liquiteria. She started chatting with the cashier, Ayesha, who posted a video on Twitter of the two of them, the excitement in her voice palpable: “This is my first smoothie for a famous person, we got LORDE in the house!” Later that night she received a Twitter DM from Lorde inviting her to the Governor’s Ball as her plus one. We hope you two have a ball this weekend!

Icy reactions to new Snow White posters

Animated film Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs is the latest retelling of the classic fairytale of Snow White (because we haven’t had enough yet). Voiced by Chloë Grace Moretz, Snow White has a pair of magic red shoes that transform her natural, short and curvy body shape into one that’s tall and impossibly slender. Riiiiight. We’re not gonna lie, the plot sounds a little… well, fat shamey. It certainly wasn’t helped by the film posters that were recently unveiled with the caption: “What if Snow White was no longer beautiful…”. Because you can’t be beautiful if you’re short or plus-sized? BS.

People have been voicing their anger on social media and Moretz took to Twitter to respond: “I have now fully reviewed the mkting [sic] for Red Shoes, I am just as appalled and angry as everyone else, this wasn’t approved by me or my team.” Is the film about body positivity, as it claims? After watching the trailer, we’re certainly not convinced…

So much Pride

June is Pride Month! And while we kicked things off at the launch of Amy Lamé’s brilliant new book From Prejudice to Pride: A History of the LGBTQ+ Movement (and told Graham Norton we loved him, nbd), Instagram is celebrating with a brand new set of LGBTQ+ themed stickers.

Each of the six stickers were designed by members of the LGBTQ+ community from all around the world and depict different aspects of queer culture. Tap on the sticker and it will tell you which LGBtQ+ artist created it, and if you double tap you’ll be taken to #Pride2017, the official hashtag of Pride Month. Instagram is also transforming highly photographed walls around the world into LGBTQ+ Pride flags. They started with this one on the side of the iconic Paul Smith shop in LA and we’re not going to lie, we hope they never change it back.

A model was fired for having her period

A woman in the US spoke up this week after she was fired from a modelling job for car company Hyundai, because she had her period. After Rachel Rickert spent three hours greeting guests at the Hyundai booth of a car show without being allowed to take a break, she told her employer that she needed to change her uniform as she hadn’t been able to change her tampon. Later that evening, she was told to take the night off because of her “period situation”… which seems sort of nice until you hear that allegedly two days later, Rachel was told Hyundai no longer wanted to work with her because they’d heard about the incident. Oh, and she hasn’t been paid for the event either.

Talking to the BBC, she said: “I was completely puzzled. I was really upset. I started crying… I was just like, ‘What? This is not right!’” Rachel’s right, this behaviour is appalling. Periods are totally natural, period.

One Love Manchester

Ariana Grande is returning to Manchester this weekend for One Love Manchester, a benefit gig to raise money for the survivors and families of those involved in last week’s terrorist attack. The pop star has offered free tickets to anyone who was there on the night of the attack, which killed 22 people and injured many more. Other huge artists including Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Coldplay and Little Mix have also signed up for the concert, which promises to be an amazing and emotional show. You can watch it live on BBC One from 6pm this Sunday.

Have a great weekend, everyone x

It’s time you started celebrating your period, guys. Sign up to bettybox RN and get all your tampons and pads, beauty products, sweet treats and loads more cool stuff delivered to your door, every single month. We know. It’s totally awesome.

Here are some things that count as ‘showing off’: loudly telling everyone your mock results when they didn’t ask. Doing perfect cartwheels during hockey practice. Instagrams from your beach holiday when you know it’s raining back home.

Here’s something that doesn’t count as ‘showing off’: lifting up your arm when there is some entirely natural hair underneath it. Nope. Not even a little bit. That’s called, well, lifting your arm up when there’s some perfectly natural hair underneath it. Ipso facto, Lourdes Leon isn’t ‘showing off’ her underarm hair any more than I’m showing off my elbows by wearing a t-shirt. Or showing off my nose by… having a nose.

But we’re all agreed on that, aren’t we? Because we’re all cool with the fact that bodies have hair in all kinds of places, and that it’s 100% up to us whether we choose to get rid of it or embrace it tenderly. Shave it, wax it, trim it, grow it, plait it, glitter it, or just let it do its sweet thing.

Sadly though, certain corners of the British media are still playing catch up as far as being chill about women’s bodies goes. And so when Madonna’s daughter went on a lovely beach holiday this week, she made headlines in loads of tabloid papers for ‘flaunting’, ‘parading’ and yep, ‘showing off’ her unshaven pits on the beach. Boring, guys. We are bored.

Instead let’s take a moment to salute Madonna Junior for following in her mum’s iconic footsteps – by not giving a s**t, doing her own thing, and being fantastically hirsute while she does it. Besides, Lourdes, you’re just saving yourself a load of painful shaving cuts. And nobody has time for this kind of hassle.
