Guys, spring is not springing. It just isn’t. In fact it’s actually meant to snow in some places this weekend, which, while exciting, is distinctly un-springlike. So we’ll park the denim jacket and… I guess put our thermals back on? Again.

On the plus side, here’s everything we’ve been reading, watching and loving this week! Chin up.

Twins are in the air

It seems that this year’s must have accessory for celebrity couples are matching tatt– oh no, whoops, twins. It’s twins. George and Amal Clooney have announced that they are expecting twins, but unlike when Queen Bey made her announcement, there was no luscious photoshoot in sight, instead they shared their news with the world via an American show called ‘The Talk.’ Congrats x 2.

Why Hiddleswift tanked

It might seem like a million years ago since you last heard the term ‘Hiddleswift’ but the duo is back in the headlines this week after Tom Hiddleston’s interview with GQ. In what’s got to be one of the most bizarre interviews of all time, Hiddleston explains how he came to be wearing the now iconic “I ❤️️ T. S.” tank top at Tay Tay’s 4th of July party.

He insists it was a joke, explaining: “I slipped and hurt my back. And I wanted to protect the graze from the sun and said, ’Does anyone have a T-shirt?’ And one of her friends said, ’I’ve got this.’ ” Somehow, after reading this interview, we have even more questions than we did at the start. Soz Tom.

Selena Gomez adds ‘producer’ to her CV

In addition to being a singer, songwriter and an actress, Selena Gomez is now trying her hand at producing. The quadruple(?) threat has signed up to work on Netflix’s new series, 13 Reasons Why, based on a YA novel by the same name written by Jay Asher. It’s a pretty harrowing story that deals with mental health, but that’s exactly why Selena got involved.

Speaking at a Netflix press panel, she said she could relate to the story; “I had no idea what I was gonna be or who I was going to become,” she says of her own high school experience. “It definitely hits home; that’s why I wanted to be a part of this project in any way.” She then added, “I would do anything to be a good influence on this generation,” which is giving us all the feels.

Epic snowball fight at a Canadian University

The forecast is predicting snow this weekend, and while it may not be the balmy spring dreamscape we’d optimistically hoped for, we’ll take it. Boy, we’ll take it. Maybe we’ll even be able to pull off a thousand people-strong snowball fight like students at the University of British Columbia did! Not that we’re getting our hopes up or anything.

Richard Vs Barack

There was a time when he hadn’t seen pictures of Barack Obama kite surfing. And let’s just all agree, it was… ok maybe not a worse time, but a simpler time. On the list of things we can thank Richard Branson for (like cheap flights and internet that only cuts out every so often), we can add this video. You go, Prez.

Get your skates on

We’re desperate to take up rollerskating. We’ve booked lessons and we’ve bought these increds roller skates so come join the party too!

And also, it’s given us all a great excuse to re-watch ‘Whip It’ which we’re convinced has to be one of the greatest sporting movies of all time.

Valentine’s Day nailed (ok, stapled)

If you want to do some Valentine’s Day craft that you can keep in your room all year round, why not try out rainbow heart garland tutorial? It’s super easy to make and looks AH-MAZING.

Wrap up warm this weekend – and please, if you get the chance, have a snowball fight!

It’s time you started celebrating your period, guys. Sign up to bettybox RN and get all your tampons and pads, beauty products, sweet treats and loads more cool stuff delivered to your door, every single month. We know. It’s totally awesome.

IT’S FINALLY SNOWING and we couldn’t be more excited. There’s something magical about snow that makes everyone immediately revert to their five-year-old self; catching snowflakes on your tongue, building snowmen with carrots for noses, belting out all the songs from Frozen as you hurtle down the nearest hill on a bin bag (oh, just us?).

So while the flakes fall outside, settle in with a hot chocolate and read about some of the other things we’ve been reading, watching and loving this week.

The Emma Watson doll looks like… Justin Bieber

The internet collectively lost its mind this week when Disney released a Belle doll ahead of the release of the new live action Beauty and the Beast film (eeeeeek). There is one slight snag though. The Emma Watson-inspired doll looks… weirdly like Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber wearing a wig and a big yellow dress.

Biebs, sorry to break it to you, but we’re not sure canary yellow is your colour. Even our mama agrees.

Parliament votes against compulsory sex ed

Despite three quarters of young people believing that sex and relationships education (SRE) should be taught in schools, parliament has voted against the legislation. SRE aims to give students a more well-rounded education about sex and relationships. Rather than just learning all the birds and the bees lark, SRE would provide information about consent, LGBT+ relationships and the emotional side of sexual relationships too – because we all know that stuff is just as important as *what* supposedly goes *where*.

If you want to get involved in the campaign, you can check it out here. Or watch our video with our Shero Laura Bates, founder of Everyday Sexism about her involvement in the SRE campaign.

iPhone turned 10 this week

A whole decade ago today, we welcomed the very first iPhone into the world. It weighed 135 grams, had a glossy black finish and changed the way we communicate forever. Happy birthday, dear iPhone! We couldn’t work out what to get you – after all, what do you get the phone that has everything? So we settled on a gif of a grumpy cat at a birthday party. Nailed it.

Sasha Obama must have had some serious FOMO on Tuesday

It always sucks when your parents say you can’t go to the cinemas with your friends because you have to study. But the Obamas took it to a whole new level this week when they said Sasha couldn’t come to watch President Obama’s farewell speech because she had an exam the next day.

Yep, while her mum and sister were sitting front row, proudly beaming as her father bid farewell to millions of people, Sasha was at home with her textbooks. No matter how she does in the exam, we’re giving her an A+ for effort.

Aubrey Plaza is on Instagram & Chris Pratt is excited

Parks and Recreation star and all-round comedy queen Aubrey Plaza has finally joined Instagram, and her TV husband Chris Pratt is pretty excited. He posted this adorable throwback of the two of them from their Parks and Rec days with the caption: “Please follow my TV wife @plazadeaubrey Aubrey Plaza AKA Janet Snakehole. She is new to Instagram. 👍🏼🙏😉😊 She is going to post really weird and funny stuff.”

You heard the man – go follow! You can’t say no to Star-Lord.

Oreo Cadbury Creme eggs are a thing now

It’s still the early days of January, so obviously supermarkets are already stocking Easter eggs. All the old regulars will be there; the giant one filled with Smarties, the Lindt ones with the soft centre and, of course, the egg that needs no introduction: the Creme egg. Only this year, Cadbury is stepping it up a notch (ok, blowing all our minds) with the Oreo Creme Egg. We’ve got three months to get used to the idea… but all the delicious sugariness of a regular Creme egg mixed with Oreos? We’re egg-cited.

Laura Marling’s voice will keep you warm this winter

Laura Marling has released a new single and we are in LOVE. It’s the perfect track for sitting near the window and watching the snow fall outside while cradling a hot beverage, maybe with a fire flickering gently in the background. And a cat gently purring on our lap. Not that we’ve thought about this or anything.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

The Netflix adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is out today, and there’s nothing unfortunate about that! After all, you’ll need some consolation when the snow melts.

Have a great weekend y’all!

It’s time you started celebrating your period, guys. Sign up to bettybox RN and get all your tampons and pads, beauty products, sweet treats and loads more cool stuff delivered to your door, every single month. We know. It’s totally awesome.

Well hey there, January! After a nice Christmas break where we ate our body weight in turkey and Lindor, we’re back and we’ve got a lot of exciting things brewing for 2017. Watch this space.

And in the meantime, here are some of the other things we’ve been reading, watching and loving this week.

New Year, Same You

This January, we’re saying boo to the usual ‘New Year, New You’ nonsense and saying ‘New Year, Same You‘ instead. It’s all about celebrating yourself – the actual you, not the Instagrammable, perfect fantasy version – and spending time on stuff you really love, instead of the stuff you think you ought to be into. This month’s going to be about celebrating your inner nerd, re-inventing your existing wardrobe, and doing exactly what’s right for you – plus all our usual tips and funny tales from the coolest girls we know. Excited? We are too.

new year same you

Petition for Carrie Fisher to be one of the Disney Princesses

Sometimes humans are really, really amazing. Following the tragic death of Carrie Fisher last week, one fan stumbled upon the brilliant idea to promote her character Princess Leia to Disney Princess stardom. It’s a controversial move as she would be the only non-animated Disney princess, but the online petition on Change.org already has over 25,000 signatures and we think makes a pretty good case.

“After the tragic lose of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated and make Leia a full-fledged princess. This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney’s new properties that is beloved by millions.

“What we are asking is that the Walt Disney Corporation hold a full ceremony inducting Leia as the newest Disney princess as well as a special service in memory of Carrie Fisher.”

Petitioners, may the force be with you.

The best of Obama, 2016

With only a few weeks left of Barack Obama’s presidency, Obama nostalgia is in full swing (and to be honest it’s in the running to be our new favourite hobby for 2017). The official White House photographer Pete Souza released his fave photos of the President from 2016 and they’re exactly as adorable as we all hoped they would be. You can check out the entire collection on Medium here. Never leave us, Barry-O.

Ellen DeGeneres took a stand

Ellen Degeneres has banned gospel singer Kim Burrell from appearing on her show this week after she made homophobic comments. In a church sermon in Texas, Burrell referred to “the perverted homosexual spirit”. Then, in a video published after the sermon, she said she made “no excuses or apologies” for her comments. The singer was due to appear with Pharrell Williams on The Ellen Degeneres Show, but presenter Degeneres, a gay woman and tireless ambassador for LGBT+ rights, took back the invite. We’re with you Ellen.

Urban Outfitters has crowned the Class of 2017

Urban Outfitters has kicked off the year with a new campaign, The Class of 2017. The special collab with US brands Hanes and Champion features 16 influencers, a diverse mix of cool faces and personalities – including body positive activist Barbie Ferreira and transgender model Hari Nef – who are aiming to change the way we look at the world this year.

Face it, magic is real

Storybook cosmetics is a book nerd’s (ahem, the entire betty team’s) dream come true, selling make up and beauty tools that take inspiration from some of the most popular books of all time. Harry Potter? Yep. Game of Thrones? Obvs. Romeo and Juliet? Why not. The product we’re probably most excited about is the quill and pot eyeliner set that they’re launching later this year – LOOK AT IT.storybook

In the meantime, follow them on Instagram to keep up to date with their plans. Accio, nerd beauty.

Have a magical weekend everyone! We’ll see you Monday.

It’s time you started celebrating your period, guys. Sign up to bettybox RN and get all your tampons and pads, beauty products, sweet treats and loads more cool stuff delivered to your door, every single month. We know. It’s totally awesome.

It’s Friday, which means that school is almost done for another week and a weekend full of hot chocolates, duvet hibernation and watching cute cat videos on YouTube awaits.

But to keep you going in the meantime, here’s our weekly round-up of everything we’ve been reading, watching and loving this week.

Give these women a medal! Oh, they did.

President Obama awarded 21 Medals of Freedom this week. The medals are a BIG DEAL, basically the American equivalent of being knighted. One of the people to receive a medal was Margaret Hamilton, the lead software developer for the 1969 NASA Apollo lunar modules and command modules. You’re looking at the lady who put astronauts on the moon, at a time when most women were still expected to be housewives.

Margaret, we salute you and your kick ass-ery.

Another very special lady received a Medal of Freedom this week: the hilarious all-dancing LGBT ambassador Ellen Degeneres. As the President noted, because of Ellen’s extraordinary success it’s easy to forget the enormous risks she’s taken – coming out as a lesbian in 1997, her career suffered and the show she was starring in was cancelled. But thanks to role models like her, LGBT rights have come on a long way in the last 20 years and nothing will warm your heart like watching a tearful Obama embrace a tearful Ellen. You guys.

Read, steady, SHOP!

It’s Black Friday, which means that there are sale everywhere. Topshop, Boots, New Look and ASOS are among the brands that will be taking part. The Guardian has rounded up of the best sales going, in case you want to get a jump start on your Christmas shopping…. or your ‘I really deserve a new jumper’ shopping.

Wake up and smell the coffee, Gilmore Girls is BACK!

After month of waiting, it’s finally here! The Gilmore Girls reunion is on Netflix now. Today. It’s right there waiting for you, shiny and new as Emily’s soup tureen.

And if you haven’t managed to watch all seven seasons, don’t worry, we’ve put together a cheat sheet with all the key characters and plot points. What are you waiting for? Altogether now! “If you’re out on the roooad… feeling lonesome and so cooold…”.

We met Jennifer Niven

This week we met Jennifer Niven, New York Times Bestselling author of All The Bright Places – which bagged a spot in Zoella’s bookclub and is now being made into a movie starring Elle Fanning as the main character, Violet. She’s now back with a new book called, Holding Up The Universe, which she told us all about when she came to visit our new betty studio. And she was delightful. We heart you, Jennifer.

Keep your eyes peeled for the interview!

Friday is finally here. And we all know that Fridays are for bedroom dance parties, treating yo’ self, and of course, the betty weekly round-up.

Here’s everything we’ve been doing, reading and loving this week.

CEOs can do whatever they like with their femininity

When researching an article, writer Ali Segel stumbled upon the example of ‘femininity’ used by the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Appallingly, it read: “she managed to become CEO without sacrificing any of her femininity“. Um, sorry, WHAT?! Merriam-Webster replied saying, “You’re right, working to remove that now.” By the end of the day, the example had been changed. Ha! Take that patriarchy.

M&S Christmas is giving us all the feels

After what was, let’s face it, a lacklustre John Lewis advert, M&S have stepped up their game. It will make you want to hug your little brother close. And also acquire some red sequinned trainers.

Young people are really concerned about terrorism

This week, the NSPCC released a statement saying that Childline provided 660 counselling sessions about terrorism between November 2015, the month of the Paris attacks, and November 2016, with one in five of the callers aged 11 or younger. Our writer Bridget has some words of wisdom on how to handle big, scary news – and if you’re concerned about terrorism or have anything you’d like to talk to Childline about you can reach them on 0800 1111.

Eddie Redmayne in defence of Hufflepuffs

Shout out to all the Hufflepuffs out there! The unsung heroes. The loyal friends. The only people who can truly pull off yellow. Eddie Redmayne is one of you and he has a message to you all: you are awesome.

The great bromance of our time

Maybe the only good thing to come out of this election result is the influx of Barack Obama and Joe Biden bromance memes. Inverse has done a great round-up of the funniest examples floating around on the internet right now, but this one might just be our fave.

Friday, we’re in love

These embroidered babies are going on our Christmas list IMMEDIATELY. Floral shoes are the perfect winter pick-me-up while all the actual flowers are dead, but you can also rock them with shorts and dresses when summer comes back around. Even better, they’re from the shop at the top of your mum-approved list: M&S. Ideal.

Happy Friday!

Autumn is here which means leaves crunching underfoot, pumpkin spice lattes and our cosiest coats being pulled out from the back of our wardrobes.

But while we hibernate, the world has been busy. Find out what we’ve been reading, loving and doing this week at betty.

EU, we bid you adieu

The Tory party conference was this week and amongst many other things (reprimanding big companies that dodge tax, the NHS and dissing Labour) T. May announced that she would trigger article 50 (the one that kicks off the whole Brexit palaver) by March 2017. There are only five months left of our European love affair, so let’s make the most of it.

Zalfie turns four

Even though Brangelina are over, it doesn’t mean the end of true love for all of us. Zoe and Alfie celebrated their four year anniversary this week and he bought her the most beautiful bunch of flowers. Swoon.

4 years with the bae ❤️ I'm one lucky girl!

Zalfie, the Obamas see your four years and raise you another 20. That’s right, the ultimate power couple celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary this week. #relationshipgoals

A plea to end bullying

The mother of 17-year-old Felix Alexander wrote an emotion open letter on the effects of bullying this week, after her son tragically took his own life. Felix was bullied all through high school, both physically and online. In the letter, his mum Lucy urged other young people to consider how they use social media and to be kind to one another, saying: “Be that one person prepared to stand up to unkindness. You will never regret being a good friend.” Let’s remember to take care of each other and if you need advice on bullying, check out the Childline website.

Solange Knowles drops her new album

Solange may be the lesser known of the Knowles sisters, but she is an incredible artist in her own right. Her new album, A Seat At The Table has some really important things to say about race relations in the US and around the world.

Over the rainbow

Sure, no one really uses pencils anymore… but maybe they should have a revival? These pencils look like a rainbow when you sharpen them, and surely we could all do with that bit of pure colourful happiness in our day.

We met Everyday Sexism founder Laura Bates

The awesome Laura is the brains behind the Everyday Sexism project and one of the lead campaigners for Sex and Relationship Education in schools. We chatted to her this week, so keep an eye out for the video which will be up on our Youtube channel soon – and make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss a thing!

‘Scuse me mate

A butterfly photobombed a koala during a photoshoot at Symbio Wildlife Park in Australia.  No, this is not a joke. Yes, it is adorable.

Watch the koala video at least twice and then go and enjoy your weekend!
